Your writing assessments are timed as you would expect in the exam and once submitted, you will receive your feedback within 48 hours. Although your report card is not provided as a PDF file for copyright reasons, you can log in to your E2Language account to access your report card with feedback.

Our feedback is very detailed; we give you overall comments to show you where the specific errors are in your writing. We also give you an indication of how well you did on a range of criteria that match the criteria of the test. For IELTS you will get your equivalent test score (i.e. a band score from 1-9).

You will receive additional comments from the teacher on how to improve each of the writing criteria, then you will receive an overall score and advice about whether you should book a tutorial to practise further.

VIDEO EXPLANATION: Our head of IELTS, Alex, has made a video explaining how our feedback system compares with the real IELTS scoring system. You can watch the video here or access the video by clicking on 'The E2 Feedback System' on your student dashboard, as shown below:

This is an example of a part of an IELTS Academic Writing Task 2 assessment score report:

Our writing scoring system is based on the official writing criteria used by IELTS examiners to assess your writing:

  • Task Response

  • Coherence and Cohesion

  • Lexical Resource

  • Grammatical Range and Accuracy

The band score for each of the criteria is awarded based on the lowest band score of all sub-criteria - ranging from Band 5 to Band 8+. For example, if you have received a Band 6 for the 'purpose' indicator but Band 8 for the other indicators, you would still get Band 6 for the whole 'Task Achievement' section.

To discuss your feedback and score in more detail, we recommend that you book a tutorial with a teacher. For more information, see How do I book a tutorial?
